4. NETRO - THE ELECTRONIC LEARNING SPACE

4.4.3 The Path - PHASE V: Reading images

Theme: Visual literacy
CONTENT KNOWLEDGE
to highlight the importance of visual literacy on the web

METACOGNITIVE KNOWLEDGE
to raise passengers awareness on how they read images

This Phase consists of three tasks.

1. The relationship between words and images is explored with a task of instant reactions to two images
2. The functions of images on the web are assessed with the help of an on-line poll
3. A group task: the production of a culturally-free image
In this Phase the structure is slightly different from the previous Phase, for the Bank references are given before the actual tasks on the Path.

In the first task it would be interesting to form even longer image rows and emphasise the effect the ordering of the images has on our interpretations. This did not become clear for all the passengers.

The technical question on how the results are presented in the second task needs to be rethought. This format is not as comprehensible as we would like it to be.

It was necessary for us to go through the digital images produced in the final F2F meeting for there seemed to be not enough time for the groups to plan their work, produce the image and to discuss the success of the images online.
