Words

You should not concentrate only on single words, as it makes fluent speech harder to achieve. However, in case you have problems with specific words, here are some ideas for practice.

  • You can use a CD-ROM dictionary that includes audio samples, e.g. Longman Interactive American/English Dictionary (ask for it at the Info-desk in Oppio). Find the word with which you have problems and listen to the sample.
  • CD-ROMs can be useful if you want to drill phrases. For instance the LangMaster Course, Beginner Level includes the possibility to listen, repeat, record and compare your speech, and a short correct pronunciation section. You can ask for the CD-ROM at the Info-desk.
  • The Working English CD-ROM includes the possibility to listen to and repeat phrases and sentences and record your speech. In addition to this, there's a variety of speech situations that range from work-related topics to small talk. You can ask for the CD-ROM at the Info-desk.
