Chunking, or information units

You should pay attention to chunking, which is an important part of pronunciation.

A group of words such as 'coffee cake and honey' can be pronounced as 'coffee-cake and honey' or 'coffee, cake and honey'.

So, chunking means the way we group words when we speak.

  • You can find information, examples and exercises on chunking on the Prosody on the Web page in tutorial 1. You can also try out tutorial 2 about focus and 3 about pitch.
