Future challenges

The fact that language and communication skills are extremely important in today’s academic working life is shown by many surveys done in both Finland and at the European level. It is important to remember that there are many skills that depend on communication competence even though they have traditionally not been seen as pure “language” skills. Examples of these are, for instance, presentation skills, team working skills, co-operation skills, negotiation skills, networking skills, intercultural skills, and so on. Some findings of what is needed in the workplace are presented on the next pages.
