I PICTURE OF ETHNIC BRITAIN
On the first day of your mission of
becoming an expert in multicultural issues, you decide that
your colleagues should first learn some basic facts about
the different ethnic communities living in Britain and,
especially, in Leicester. This is because you want your
colleagues to realize that modern Britain is a multicultural
society. You decide to browse newspapers and journal articles
in order to find some facts and figures about Britain's
population.

Here's what you should do:
Familiarise yourself with the picture
of ethnic Britain by using (some of ) the links indicated
at the bottom of the page. Then choose either task 1a or
1b.
- 1a) Write a memo that presents the basic
facts and figures about ethnic groups living in Leicester.
Your text should follow the memo format
(see links below), it should contain references to sources,
and it should be addressed to your fictional colleagues.
Your memo should be written in English and it should be
about 500 words long - this can mean text, tables, charts
etc. You can compare the facts and figures of ethnic groups
of Leicester with the situation in Finland if you like.
Post your memo (e.g. as an attachment file) to the course
workspace in Moodle.
-
1b) Find out what scholars have to say about
intercultural relations by reading an academic journal
article and summarising it (see the links below)
in a memo. You can read some of the articles indicated
below or you can find an article on your own, in which
case you should include accurate reference information
of the source in your memo. Remember to follow the memo
format (see link below), make references to sources,
and address the memo to your fictional colleagues. Your
memo should be written in English and it should be about
500 words long. Post your memo (e.g. as an attachment
file) to the course workspace in Moodle.
