Paraphrasing for citation
When you are using source materials to back up your arguments, you need
to use citations.
WHAT IS A GOOD PARAPHRASE LIKE?
- The meaning of the original source has not been changed.
- Original words have been replaced by synonyms (except for very
common words or technical words).
- Structures have been reformulated.
- Its structure is about the same as that of the source.
- It reflects the style of the paraphraser not that of the writer
of the source text.

TIPS FOR A PARAPHRASER
|
COMMON ERRORS OF PAPAPHRASING
- Not understanding the source. You
should make sure you really understand the passage you are paraphrasing!
- Including personal ideas or opinions in
the paraphrase. Make sure that the ideas you paraphrase
are the author's!
- Writing paraphrases which make little
sense. Check your paraphrases for spelling and grammar
and make sure that you can understand their meaning!
- Avoid PLAGIARISM!
