Research Reporting in English

2 ECTS

Target Groups

All students (Finnish and international) who wish to practise conference skills in their own field in a virtual and real conference session

Prerequisite

B2-C1 proficiency level of English

Aims

  • to develop writing and presentation skills for seminars and conferences and to learn about academic communication conventions in various disciplines
  • to improve skills for self-directed language learning and use of  ICT,
  • to learn to access specific information and
  • to synthesize it for oral and written reporting in an academic session.

(The course may be integrated with subject studies or graduate studies as a specific language module.)

General Format

This course is an interdisciplinary conference simulation including real and virtual contact sessions, as well as self-access and peer feedback tasks of conference writing and reviewing. The "conference" website is created on the Optima learning platform to be used for all communication preceding the actual conference session which is held at the end of the course.

You may practise conference skills by reporting on your own research or on some research done in your own field. Instructions are given in the first session.

Because of Optima logins and the proportion of work and communication to be done virtually, attendance in the first session is compulsory.

Time

Autumn or Spring

Assessment

Continuous self-assessment and peer and teacher assessment. The course will be graded.
