IV B) THE STORY OF FRANK MCCOURT - THE AUTHOR OF ANGELA'S ASHES

Angela's Ashes is an autobiographical book written by Frank McCourt. Thus, Frank McCourt told about his own childhood, his own family and his own choices. Are you curious to know what happened to him after he arrived in America?

Task

You are asked to introduce the late Frank McCourt's life at a literature conference in Ireland. After your introduction, Frank McCourt's books Angela's Ashes, 'Tis and Teacher Man will be discussed in a panel discussion. Your task is to give the audience an overview of his life (including his childhood in Ireland, his initial experiences in America - e.g. discrimination - and his work history), his reasons for starting to write, his feelings towards his childhood, his family and Ireland at the moment as well as 2-3 turning points in his life (in your opinion). Please explain why you consider those particular events significant. Thus, please write a concise, semi-formal speech (max. 2 pages) which you could give at the literature conference and save it in the course workspace in Moodle. In the speech, you should refer to at least one written source and one audio interview. Please refer to specific comments or quotations by Frank McCourt to support and enrich your speech. Remember to indicate the sources you used!
