Interview Transcript – Sandra B.

Describe the course in your own words. How would you describe the course?
If I would describe the course, it’s basically a writing course, so the most important is to just keep on writing and improving so your writing strategies.

What did you learn on the course?
I learn on this course to write in an academic way or to improve different types of writing: how to write an essay or how to write a short story, how I can write my opinion and especially writing as such.

Did you acquire any new learning strategies on the course?
For me there were new learning strategies, because the whole uses Optima which is a program in the Internet how we can keep in contact or how we can also learn at home. And this is for me quite good.

Where there any new teaching or studying methods, type of assignments, etc. on the course?
For me as well it was new that we learn how to re-write a text. And also the teacher often give us feedback or also the other students give us feedback, so that we can improve and try not to make the same mistakes again.

What is your opinion about the pace of the course – was it too fast, too slow or suitable?
For me it’s suitable, and also the students have different level in this course, but sometimes it’s just faster or slower, so it’s more or less suitable for everyone.

What is your opinion about the course material?
The course material which we get until now was very useful. We got a lot of links in the Internet, which had good sites about dictionaries or about writing strategies. And it’s free for everybody, if you spend time, visit or not.

What do you think about the work load of the course?
I think the course is a lot of work, so you really have to keep on writing every weekend. The assignments are every week. And the teacher warned us already in the beginning, but still a lot of students stopped the course because it’s really much. So if you are interested, you should really know that it’s a lot of work.

Did the course meet your expectations?
Yes the course until now fulfilled my expectations. I was happy that we always got the feedback from the teacher or feedback from the other students. And like the name is, it is about writing, and so everybody who needs to improve their writing, it’s the right course.

Was the course suitable for your skill level in English?
I think the course was also suitable for my English level, because I didn’t improve my English before I came to Finland. So it was good now to keep on writing, because before that in the studies I never had to write anything.

To whom would you recommend this course?
I would recommend it especially to all Erasmus students which know that they have to improve their English, because here they will have to write a lot of essays in English, and they can just make here some experiences how they can write an essay, how they can write an academic way, or how to just keep mistakes out.

What was best on the course?
The best thing on this course I think is the feedback that we get from the teacher and from the other students.

What was unnecessary on the course?
Sometimes I think the course is a little bit too much work, so especially for Erasmus students you have a lot of activities in your free time, but anyway, it doesn’t matter if you have no time, you can do it a week later.
